Joey “Jaws” Chestnut ate 59-1/2 hot dogs and buns in 12 minutes and set a new world record in Tempe Arizona this weekend.
He finished second to Takeru Kobayashi in the Nathan’s Famous Fourth of July Hot Dog Eating Contest where Kobayashi set the world record of 53-3/4 hot dogs and buns. Kobayashi has held the hot dog eating world record for several years and is the top ranked competitor in the International Federation of Competitive Eating. Joey Chestnut is second.

Thank goodness. I had heard this rumor and was worried that my favorite — far-and-away favorite — show would move to NBC where it would die. It wasn’t because I thought they would burnish off all the edge or suck out all the thought-provoking challenges to mainstream American politics (they would do those things) but simply because it seems that any show that I enjoy doesn’t last on network TV.
Did you hear that CBS has pulled Smith after only 3 episodes?
